However, his sister asks him to join her and some of her athlete friends to a small village to give food and toys to the villagers. What starts outa trip to help people turns into a nightmare when Yang's men arrive at the village and take over, demanding the release of Yang or a nuclear missile will hit Bangkok. When villagers are killed left and right, Daew and the athletes must start a revolution against the tyranny before it's too late.
A group of athletes helping a poor village must stop an evil tyrant and his men from terrorizing the village.
First of all, be wary of anyone who gives a score of 1. Only completely objectionable and morally bankrupt pursuits could warrant such a score.

Kerd ma lui is an action film that follows the life of an undercover Thai cop who is ailing from the recent loss of a partner. To salve his pain and to fulfill his dutyhis sister's guardian, he decides to take some time to travel to an outlying village on a mission of good will. Whilst there, the village is overrun by murderous terrorist with sinister motives, not least of which being to indiscriminately slaughter innocent villagers for all the world to see.

The story in Kerd ma lui is solid and well paced. The cast of characters are adequate and they all serve their immediate purpose. There's a good deal of nationalism in the filmit does deal with terrorism and nuclear holocaust, but the Thai nationalism was refreshing to meit offered a perspective that I had never before experienced. It was nowherepoliticalthe nationalism prevalent in many US films, but it was inspiring never the less.

The real meat of the film is its action. It's a reckless brand of stunt mastery that actually inspires fear and concern for the performers. Each stunt and flawless take seems to tempt fate. For example, trucks perform jumps only to land a couple of feet away from an actor's head. And though some of the choreographed fights between the less skilled performers utilize camera tricks for impact effect, there are some fights with hits that simply aren't pulled–high flying moves full of so much momentum and speed that they need to be slowed down in order to be appreciated. Speaking of slow motion, it's used quite liberally throughout the film. I've heard complaints against this, but it's important to note that some of the choreography would simply not be seen at 24 fps.

Kerd ma lui is a good film that has a lot more going for it than Ong bak. It has a deeper storyline and characters that are likable and interesting. The suspense is more genuine and the fights aren'trepetitive. Comparisons to Ong bak aside, Kerd ma lui manages to be a decent film that is certainly worth a watch and, always, it provides a glimpse into a foreign approach to the action genre. Without doubt, the Thais have succeeded in creating an action fighter that outperforms many of its counterparts from the west.
If ONG BAK was the Thai film that re-invented martial arts for a jaded audience, then BORN TO FIGHT is the film that re-invents stuntwork for the new millennium. Established director Panna Rittikrai has been shooting and starring in action flicks for more than two decades and he reveals himself to be the perfect director for this action flick that recalls the glory days of '80s cinema when Schwarzenegger and Stallone were shooting up the screen every ten seconds. Take a B-grade storyline, barely existent, and pack it with fighting and stunts, and you have a top class movie that never lets up from the word go.

The plot is pretty much 'DIE HARD in a village' and it sees a bunch of athletes fighting off about two hundred terrorists in and around a rural Thai location. The camera-work is excellent and the pumping music only adds to the experience. Some might complain about the clichéd script but to be honest, there's not a great deal of dialogue in the movie anyway; this is a film where actions really DO speak louder than words. Rittikrai had the excellent idea of hiring real-life athletic stars to appear in his movie and training them to act, rather than hiring actors and training them to do athletics. His idea pays offthe film offers classic scene after classic scene, moments of filming that'll delight any action fan who watches.

Things kick off with a big truck chase involving two guys fighting atop a speeding truck. Think you've seen it before in THE MATRIX RELOADED? Forget it – this time it's for real, various stuntmen are kicked and bounce off other traffic on the road; the best stunt sees a guy fall to the ground between two trucks, his head bouncing inches away from the wheels. The film then takes half an hour out to set up the story before letting rip with a final half an hour which is really action cinema at its finest.

Martial arts bouts are frequent and there are lots of slow-motion kicks to the head which will always satisfy. There's an outstanding battle with burning bits of wood and plenty of gymnasticsthe athletes use poles and wooden boards to fight off the faceless villains. A football star has the show-off momentshe kicks wooden balls into heads and, in one outlandish moment, uses a football to knock a guy from a guard tower about a mile in the distance! A rugby player adds to the bone-crushing violence and even old men, women and kids get in on the action. Rittikrai remembers the crucial element of emotion and gives our heroes a reason to fight, these are some of the most violent and ruthless bad guys you'll see.

The hero of the piece is Dan Chupong, playing a cop. His acting is okay but his fighting is wicked and his various martial arts brawls towards the film's climax are wicked. The best fight is saved for the endChupong takes on ONG BAK baddie Chatthapong Pantanaunkul (excellent again) and beats the hell out of him, sending his body crashing against metal bars and the like. The stuntwork is equally impressive and there are some jaw-dropping moments involving motorbikes. However, the film's highlight for me is a 1st person-shooter style interludethe fluid camera follows Chupong aroundhe shoots, kicks and uses grenades against the enemy; DOOM eat your heart out! Violence is plentiful and the blood sprays everywhereit should in a film of this type. Things don't let up either, there's a brief lull in the proceedings at the film's end where you think it's over, then suddenly the emotion is ratcheted up and there's a pounding against-the-clock game of chicken that'll have you on the edge of your seat. BORN TO FIGHT is a top-notch action flick that'll engage anybody with a pulse!
